The coastal region of Campania in Southern Italy, bordering the Tyrrhenian Sea, is an impressive producer of high quality wines. The name Campania, derived from the Latin phrase “campania felix’, means ‘fertile’ or ‘happy’ land.

Located on the western coast of Italy, it is bordered by Lazio and Molise to the north, and Puglia and Basilicata to the southeast. Being close to the sea, the climate is Mediterranean. It has dry, hot summers and mild winters. Coupled with a lengthy growing season, this contributes to the high acidity level and thick skins of the grape.

Campania has four DOCG appellations for the wines of Taurasi, Fiano de Avellino, Falerno del Massico and Greco di Tufo. The region has also welcomed the introduction of a regional IGT, under which many expressive red, white and rosé wines are made from local grapes, including Aglianco del Beneventano.
