Pinot Grigio

This white wine grape variety is grown around the world under the names Pinot Gris, Pinot Grigio or Grauburgunder. In Italy, Pinot Grigio is popularly planted in North Eastern Italy, in area such as Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto.

In Italy, the style is lighter-bodied and more acidic than the full bodied Alsatian style which is often duplicated in New World wine regions. It is often harvested early to retain the refreshing acidity and minimize some of the overt fruitiness of the variety, creating a more neutral flavor. This style is often imitated in other Old World wine regions such as Germany, where the grape is known as Rülander.

The Pinot Grigio style is a light-bodied, often lean wine, which is light in color, with crisp and acidic flavors.
